PAM is a kind of polyelectrolyte synthesized on the basis of acrylamide and its copolymers, which is a high molecular weight water-soluble polymer. Generally, it can be divided into cation PAM, anion PAM and non-ionic PAM according to the charge properties. Its performance has four categories.
I.flocculation
When PAM is used for flocculation, it is related to the surface properties of the flocculated substances, especially the potential, viscosity, turbidity and pH value of the suspension. The potential on the surface of the particles is the reason why the particles are blocked by adding PAM with opposite surface charge, which can reduce the potential and agglomerate.
II. Adsorption bridging
PAM molecular chain is fixed on the surface of different particles, and polymer bridge is formed between the particles, which makes the particles aggregate and settle.
III. surface adsorption
Adsorption of polar group particles on PAM.
IV. enhancement
PAM molecular chain and dispersed phase are linked together to form a network through various mechanical, physical and chemical actions. High polymer polyacrylamide is one of the most widely used water-soluble polymers because of its high viscosity.
